Force est de constater leur permanence dans les repr\u00e9sentations sociales, comme leur syst\u00e9matique remise en cause par les gens.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019action se passe quelque part non loin de Brooklyn, dans les ann\u00e9es 40.<\/p>\n<p>La pi\u00e8ce raconte l\u2019histoire d\u2019un sexag\u00e9naire, qui exerce la profession de commis voyageur depuis plusieurs d\u00e9cennies. Il est mari\u00e9 avec une femme au foyer, et ils ont deux enfants adultes. La pi\u00e8ce se d\u00e9roule sur diff\u00e9rents temps : les personnages \u00e9voluent au pr\u00e9sent mais interviennent \u00e9galement au gr\u00e9 des fantasmes, des r\u00eaves ou des r\u00e9miniscences du personnage central. Le commis voyageur est un homme fatigu\u00e9, qui a men\u00e9 une vie \u00e9puisante de commis voyageur et qui se trouve face \u00e0 ses \u00e9checs et ses d\u00e9sillusions quant \u00e0 la nature humaine. Tout au long de la pi\u00e8ce, il se rem\u00e9more ses espoirs et ses bonheurs, mais aussi les difficult\u00e9s qu\u2019il a eues \u00e0 affronter le monde des affaires Tout a chang\u00e9,\u00a0particuli\u00e8rement, et confronte le commis voyageur \u00e0 son incapacit\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00e9voluer pour maintenir la performance qu\u2019on attend de lui. Son absence de r\u00e9sultats l\u2019a conduit \u00e0 une situation financi\u00e8re d\u00e9licate qui le plonge dans l\u2019anxi\u00e9t\u00e9.
